Haiti Relief Supplies Update

We have had great response from churches, individuals, Lake City Police Department, and Lake City Public Works concerning collection of Haitian Relief Supplies.  Pastor Louis and Marie Joseph are making preparations to deliver the supplies to Haiti as soon as possible.  As of yesterday (Tuesday) flights are still not available to Port-Au-Prince and they are being diverted to The Dominican Republic and then a car or truck has to be rented to enter Haiti.  Hopefully the Port-Au-Prince airport will open for domestic flights soon.  In the mean time we have a great relief supply of clothing.  Items needed now are CANNED GOODS, SMALL FIRST AID KITS, PERSONAL HYGEINE ITEMS, BOTTLED WATER, and of course cash donations are welcome and needed.  Dwight Law from The Vineyard has volunteered to assist us in getting the supplies to Miami and Brian Steele from Pine Grove has assisted us with local pick up of items.  Brian made a trip to Jacksonville and picked up 300 cardboard boxes so that we can pack the supplies in the same size box to make shipping and handling somewhat easier.

Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti.

The Refuge
The Perfect Place for Imperfect People

What is a Refuge?

The dictionary definition of a refuge is this “a protective shelter that provides a safe place to receive help in time of need.” Everyone at one time or another finds themselves in a place where life is difficult, where life hurts, and where it seems to be more than we can handle alone. The difference that separates us from the world is where we turn in these times.

Who is our Refuge?

If we take refuge in any other place other than in The One who created us and designed us with purpose and meaning, then we miss out on God’s very best. Take refuge in The One who can see beyond our obstacles, our circumstances, and beyond the very things that immobilize us with fear. Take refuge in Jesus Christ, the one who will never let you down.

Gods promises in the Bible

God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trials, therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried away. (Psalm 46:1-2) The name of the Lord is a strong tower. (Proverbs18:10) Let us come boldly to Gods throne of grace, that we may find mercy, and receive grace to help us in our times of need. (Hebrews 14:6)

The Refuge exists as a direct reflection of the shelter and security that Pastor Ken Perkins found in Christ through many of his personal storms. Some of them include the death of his father when Ken was only five, growing up with a stepfather who was an alcoholic and addict, running from God’s call to ministry, and making many bad choices with potential to destroy his life and ministry. Ken says, “God has used each of these obstacles as an opportunity to walk in the same shoes of the people that most churches are not reaching today.” Ken has a passion for disconnected and hurting people because God has given him a second chance and he believes that if God can change his life God can change anyone.

Another influence in Ken’s life has been the connection with pastors who have a heart to see God’s Kingdom expand, not their own personal empires built here on earth. Some of those include: Pastor Eddie Blalock of The Orchard; Pastor Dale Tompkins of Church on the Way; Pastor David Patterson of Rivercross in Gainesville; James Roberts, Director of Missions for The Beulah Baptist Association and Nevi Townsend, who oversees church planting for The Florida Baptist Convention. Ken believes these men truly are living out the example that God intends for each of us, by networking with other believers, planting new churches, and building healthy relationships with those churches already sharing the Gospel.

The Vision

Imagine a ragtag collection of surrendered, authentic, and transformed people who love God and others. They are caught up in the idea that this is not about them, but all about Jesus and His Kingdom. They are transfixed by His story as well as His heart for their city and His World. They are seed planters, hope peddlers and grace-givers, risk-takers, and dreamers. They are people of all ages, and from every walk of life united by Gods purpose and mission. They link arms with anyone who tells the story of Jesus with integrity. They empower the poor, strengthen the weak, embrace the outcast, love the unlovable, and rescue those far from God. They serve together, play together, worship together, and live life together. Families, neighbor-hoods, communities, cities, states and our world will be changed because of Gods power and our obedience. They are focused on becoming a place where there are no bricks, no boundaries, no walls, but a willingness to do whatever it takes short of sinning to reach those no one else is reaching.

The Refuge Begins
